Background & Education

Dr. Elias Boukrami began his education at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Algiers (ESC ALGER) where he earned an honors degree in Business and Finance (1994-1998). He later continued his academic journey in the United Kingdom with:

  • A Diploma in English and Business from King's College London (1998-1999)
  • A Master of Science in Financial Services Management from the University of Surrey, Surrey European Management School (1999-2001)
  • A Philosophy Doctorate in Empirical Finance from The Manchester Graduate Business School (2002-2006), focusing on financial derivatives and particularly swaps, under the supervision of Professor Anthony Berry
  • A Postgraduate Certificate of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCHE) from the University of Westminster (2009-2011)

Scientific Career

Dr. Boukrami is a post-Keynesian financial economist who firmly believes that economic output is demand-driven and that this demand can only be sustainable if it responds to given or potential needs. He acknowledges the complexity, dynamics, and structural mutations of demand over time.

His professional career includes several leadership positions:

  • Director (Content) of Business, Finance and Entrepreneurship at Regent's University London (January 2021-present)
  • Head of Programmes Finance, Energy and Trade (June 2019-December 2020)
  • Deputy Director of the Regent's Transnational Centre for Business and Management
  • Head of Programmes for MSc Finance and MSc Oil and Gas Trade Management (June 2015-June 2019)
  • Principal Lecturer in Finance and Banking (January 2014-June 2015)
  • Senior Lecturer in Finance and Banking (September 2010-December 2013)

He has also been an Invited Professor in Finance and Information Systems Risk Management at the University of Lyon III, France since 2010, an External advisor for MSc Islamic Banking and Finance at the University of East London (2012), a Project Manager of Financial Consultancy in Banking Treasury (2007-2008), and a Lecturer in Finance at Salford University (2004-2008).

Honors & Recognition

Under his leadership, his team was awarded the 2014 Trustees' Prize for Outstanding Service to Regent's University London. In 2018, he won a double award prize of Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Prize of Leadership and Management.

Dr. Boukrami is the Associate Director of the Regent's Transnational Centre for Business and Management (in charge of the Transnational Finance and Economics Group).

He led the new design of business and finance curriculum by applying the new Regents Curriculum Model in the Finance area, including the application of advanced financial technology and bootcamps, simulations, interdisciplinarity, and experiential learning and teaching in Finance.

Impact & Influence

Dr. Boukrami acts as an external examiner and advisor to several UK and international institutions such as Cranfield Business School, University of Bradford, and CIMA. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Lyon 3 IAE France and a member of the strategic advisory board for research appointed by the University President.

He regularly appears in the press and media (BBC, Banker Magazine, World Commerce Review, Government Press Agencies). He also speaks at UKTI and MEA conferences, promoting Regent's and British higher education from a global perspective.

His publications include:

  • "The History of the Algerian Banking Industry, 1830 to 2010," published by Mellen Press Publishing
  • A research-driven book chapter on "Swaps" for leading US Professors Kent Baker and Greg Filbeck in their best-seller textbook "Investment Risk Management" published by Oxford University Press
  • Over 30 publications including internal peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters, and conference papers

He has also examined and supervised over 15 PhD theses and is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Islamic Marketing.
