Origins & Education

Born in 1967 in Taher, Jijel, Algeria, Abdelbaki Benamor completed his secondary education at the Lycée mixte de Taher. He pursued his initial academic studies at the University of Bejaia, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in sciences. He later completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering, specializing in carbon capture and conversion, as well as water and wastewater treatment with a focus on membrane technologies.

Scientific Career

Dr. Abdelbaki Benamor is currently a Research Professor at the Gas Processing Centre (GPC) at Qatar University. With a strong background in Chemical Engineering, he is among the top researchers in Environmental Engineering in Qatar, with more than twenty years of experience in academic and industrial research and development.

His research addresses fundamental and technical issues related to energy, water, and the environment. His research interests include:

  • Development of novel efficient technologies for CO2 capture from natural and flue gases and its conversion into valuable products using thermal and electrochemical processes
  • Treatment of wastewater and produced water using novel adsorbents and advanced membrane processes
  • Development of innovative electrochemical techniques for heavy metals detection in water bodies

He has successfully secured more than 4.8 million dollars in research and industry grants in collaboration with internationally recognized institutions in Europe, Asia, and North America. Dr. Benamor has authored and co-authored more than 120 articles in Scopus-indexed journals, demonstrating his significant contribution to his field of expertise.

Distinctions & Recognition

Professor Benamor has published more than 130 Scopus-indexed articles. His scientific impact is considerable, as evidenced by his h-index of 43 with 6559 citations according to Google Scholar. He ranks among the top 2.5% of scientists in his field globally.
