Fields of specialty: Industrial Engineering, Energy Engineering, Materials, Environment, Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography

Origins & Education

Born on April 7, 1965, in Algiers (Algeria), Abdeltif Amrane has built a solid academic career at the intersection of chemistry and process engineering. He obtained a Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB) in Algiers in 1987, before continuing his studies in France. At the University of Rennes 1, he completed a DEA (Diplôme d'Études Approfondies, equivalent to a Master's degree) in Chemistry in 1988, followed by a PhD in Chemistry in 1991 at the Separation Process Laboratory. In 1998, he obtained his Habilitation to Direct Research (HDR), allowing him to supervise doctoral work.

Scientific Career

Abdeltif Amrane's career has primarily developed at the University of Rennes 1, where he has climbed the academic ranks with consistency and excellence:

  • 2021 - present: Director of the Technological Institute of Rennes
  • Since 2018: Professor Exceptional Class at the University of Rennes 1
  • 2018 - 2020: Deputy Director of the Chemistry Department at the Technological Institute
  • 2008 - 2018: Professor 1st Class at the University of Rennes 1
  • 2006 - 2012: Head of the Chemistry Department
  • 2001 - 2008: Professor 2nd Class at the University of Rennes 1
  • 1993 - 2001: Associate Professor at the University of Rennes 1 (Chemistry Department of the Technological Institute)
  • 1998 - 1999: Assistant Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Rennes 1
  • 1992 (6 months): Engineer at the Société Armoricaine de Traitement des Algues (BRITTA Program)

His research activities mainly focus on chemical separation processes, industrial effluent treatment, waste valorization, and the development of environmental technologies. At the National School of Chemistry of Rennes (ENSCR), he is an active member of the CIP team (Chemistry and Process Engineering) where he leads research projects focused on sustainable processes and circular economy.
