Origins & Education
Saddek Rabah was born in 1968 in Algeria. His academic journey began in his native country, where he obtained his degree from the Institute of Information and Communication Science (ISIC) at the University of Algiers, establishing a solid foundation for his future career in media and communication.
Eager to deepen his knowledge and broaden his academic horizons, he pursued his higher education in France. In 1991, he received a national scholarship from the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which enabled him to embark on a doctoral program at Paris 2 University, an institution renowned for the excellence of its programs in information and communication sciences.
These formative years between Algeria and France allowed him to develop an intercultural and comparative perspective on issues related to media, information, and communication—a perspective that would significantly enrich his research work and teaching throughout his career.
Scientific Career
Professor Saddek Rabah's academic career began in 2000, when he started teaching in higher education. His professional journey is marked by a rich international experience, primarily in the Gulf countries.
Before joining Qatar University, where he currently holds the position of Professor in the Mass Communication Department of the College of Arts and Science, he taught for over 18 years in the United Arab Emirates. During this period, he held various positions at several prestigious institutions: the Canadian University of Dubai, the University of Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates University, and Ajman University.
His career has not been limited to teaching. Professor Rabah has also taken on important administrative and academic responsibilities, notably as Dean at Ajman University and Chair of the Communication Department at the Canadian University of Dubai. These leadership roles have allowed him to contribute significantly to the development and improvement of communication and media studies programs in the region.
As an educator, he has taught more than 24 different courses covering a wide range of topics in the field of media and communication, including: Investigative Journalism, News Writing and Editing, Media Laws and Ethics, Advanced Methodologies in Communication, Communications Theories, Introduction to New Media, Principles of Visual Communication, Media Management, Media Convergence, Social Marketing, Internet & Social Networks, Media Sociology, Integrated Communication, Information Society, and Media and Society.
Alongside his teaching and management activities, Professor Rabah has pursued an active research career. His research interests focus on social networks, citizen media, internet studies, media convergence, information society, media and social change, and media discourse. His research work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented his findings at numerous international and regional conferences.
He has also contributed to the development of the field as a reviewer for many media programs as well as several academic journals in communication and media, thus participating in quality assurance and the advancement of knowledge in his area of expertise.
Distinctions & Recognition
Throughout his career, Professor Saddek Rabah has received several awards and distinctions that testify to the excellence of his contributions to research and teaching in the field of information and communication sciences:
Research Excellence Award (2018): Awarded by the Arab Association for Research and Communication Studies, in Beirut, Lebanon, on November 29, 2018. This prestigious distinction recognizes the importance and quality of his contributions to research in the field of media and communication in the Arab world.
Best Professor in Media & Public Relations (2016): Awarded by the Middle East Education Leadership Awards, in Dubai, UAE, on October 4, 2016. This prize highlights his excellence in teaching and his significant contribution to the training of future media and public relations professionals in the region.
Best Research Paper (2009): Awarded by AUSACE (The Arab-U.S. Association of Communication Educators) at its fourteenth annual international conference, in Cairo, Egypt, from November 7-10, 2009. This recognition testifies to the quality and originality of his research work at the international level.
Bonus (Merit Increase Initiative) (2006): Awarded by the United Arab Emirates University, demonstrating the recognition of his academic excellence and exceptional contribution to the institution.
National Scholarship (1991): Granted by the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, allowing him to pursue his doctoral studies in France, marking the beginning of his international career.
