Origins & Education

Malika Rahal was born in 1974 in Toulouse, in a France undergoing profound social and intellectual transformation. This generation, born in the 1970s, would develop a new approach to Franco-Algerian history, freed from the immediate passions of conflict and capable of a critical and peaceful perspective on this complex period.

She undertook her higher education at the University of Bordeaux, where she trained in history and sociology, thus acquiring dual expertise that would enrich her historical methodology. This interdisciplinary training would enable her to approach Algerian history from multiple angles, combining political, social, and cultural analysis.

1998: Obtained the agrégation in history, consecration of her academic excellence and gateway to higher education

Her doctoral thesis, defended in 2007 under the supervision of Benjamin Stora at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), focuses on the Democratic Union of the Algerian Manifesto (UDMA) and the decade of political parties in Algeria (1946-1956). This pioneering work explores a pivotal period in Algerian history, that of the emergence of organized political nationalism.
