Origins & Education

Born in 1965 in Boumerdes, Boudouaou, Dr. Djamel Boutoutaou began his academic journey at the Institut National des Hydrocarbures et de la Chimie (INHC) in Boumerdes, where he obtained his State Engineer degree in Industrial Chemistry.

He pursued his higher education at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in the United Kingdom, where he earned his Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Petroleum Geochemistry. His academic excellence was recognized with the Best MSc results in 1998.

Scientific Career

Dr. Boutoutaou boasts an outstanding 32-year professional experience in petroleum geochemistry. He began his career as a petroleum geochemist with Sonatrach, focusing on the major Paleozoic basins across the Saharan platform in Algeria.

During his 15 years with Fugro-Robertson and CGG Robertson, one of the market leaders in the sector, he developed excellent industry knowledge and an astute approach to a variety of single and multi-disciplinary projects worldwide, including the North Sea (UK and Norway), Gulf of Mexico, North and South Atlantic margins, North and East Africa, Middle East, and Far East (Pakistan, India, Thailand, Mongolia, Australia, and New Zealand).

He oversaw the petroleum geochemistry department and was responsible for sustaining business development, project management, development of workflows, innovation, data quality control (QC), mentoring and training staff, project supervision, and technical/peer review for all geochemical projects.
